What is this really about?

Stop! Think Green is a campaign that started with the simple symbol design. We are working on developing programs that will use the symbol in creative ways, such as recycling programs and educational events to create community impact. Stickers and wallet cards are given out freely to promote the idea of thinking green and as reminders to all of us to think about our choices.

Goal and Mission

To use clear visual communication to change the way people think of green – from a theoretical notion to a real action.

  • Reach those who already know that we need to change the way we live and to establish new habits but maybe need help in making those moment by moment decisions.
  • Create more awareness among the general population about thinking green and the simple changes they can make.
  • Change corporate behaviors by creating a demand for change among consumers.
  • To give businesses and non-profit organizations opportunities to join our cause or use the symbol to further their own genuine efforts to move towards sustainability.

Our goal is to get us all to use the STOP! THINK GREEN symbol as a tool to change the habits we want to change. We’d like to see one on every trash can so everyone will STOP and THINK before putting recyclables in them. The DVD player that’s done playing the movie is not off until I turn it off.  If I put a THINK sticker on it, it’ll remind me to turn it off. I might even stop and think to unplug it or flip the switch on the power strip. If you have lights that always get left on, put stickers on the switches to remind everyone in your house to turn them off. If you want to remind everyone in your house to use less water, put one in the shower or by the toothbrushes. Put one in your car to remind you to drive less, one in your wallet to remind you to make smarter purchases. These are things we know we need to do but we don’t always remember to do them. Maybe we need a visual reminder.

Vision

Our vision is that the STOP! THINK GREEN symbol will become a universal symbol serving as a catalyst for the changes we need to make one decision at a time.

Values

We believe that sustainability is a quality of life issue. The environment affects all aspects of human existence. Living sustainably demands respect for the human condition. Therefore, we take more of a supportive role rather than a prescriptive role. We desire to give people opportunities to gain understanding in what living sustainably means and then support them in making daily decisions that are in line with their own values and morals.

STOP! THINK GREEN was designed by Dorothy Banzon in a response to a calling she felt to use her skills as a visual communicator to help solve the urgent problems facing our environment. While studying the environmental issues and the things that we can do as individuals, it occurred to her that most of the things we can do are things we already know about. And, for her personally to make a difference in her daily life, it would really just take a visual reminder to make the right choices moment by moment.
